Ahrefs alternative: the best Ahrefs alternatives compared, and the cheaper ones that still do the job
We sell one of the tools on this page, so read it with that in mind. Ahrefs beats us at several things and the tables say which. Every price here was read off the vendor's own pricing page on the date shown, not lifted from a listicle that has not been touched since 2024.
Nobody replaces all of Ahrefs. Work out which half you pay for.
Ahrefs sells two things in one subscription: a very large backlink index, and a research and rank tracking workflow built on top of it. The cheaper alternatives replace the second half well and the first half badly. If links drive your decisions, Semrush at $139 a month is the nearest like for like and Majestic is the specialist. If what you actually open is keyword research and rank tracking, Mangools and Moz Pro do that for a third to two thirds of the Ahrefs price. And if the bottleneck is the writing that follows the audit, none of them help, because none of them produce the corrected page. That last gap is the one Seomake fills.
One thing almost every roundup of Ahrefs alternatives gets wrong: it prints every price with a dollar sign. Mangools, Majestic, Seobility and SEO PowerSuite all bill in euros. For a US buyer that means the number on the invoice moves with the exchange rate and may pick up a foreign transaction fee on the card. The currency column below exists for that reason.
Ahrefs list prices verified against ahrefs.com/pricing on 24 August 2026. Mangools verified on 24 August 2026. Every other vendor price carries its own read date in the table.
Seven Ahrefs alternatives, with the currency each one actually bills in
Entry price means the cheapest tier that is a serious working plan, not a trial or a crippled free tier. Where a vendor only publishes an annual rate, the table says so. Vendors move prices, so check before you buy.
| Tool | Entry price | Bills in | Price read | What it is actually good at |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush | $139/mo SEO plan | USD | 23 Aug 2026 | The only major suite with daily rank refresh, plus paid search and PR data |
| Moz Pro | $99/mo Standard | USD | 23 Aug 2026 | Domain Authority as a shared benchmark, and AI content briefs bundled into the plan |
| Mangools | EUR 37.70/mo Basic, billed annually | EUR | 24 Aug 2026 | API and MCP access on every tier, including the cheapest, plus 500 tracked AI prompts |
| Ubersuggest | From $29/mo | USD | 23 Aug 2026 | The cheapest way into keyword data, and a lifetime plan no other vendor offers |
| Majestic | EUR 46.99/mo Lite | EUR | 23 Aug 2026 | Backlinks only, since 2006, with an index history reaching back further than anyone |
| SEO PowerSuite | EUR 349/yr Professional | EUR | 23 Aug 2026 | Desktop software billed yearly, with a free tier that crawls 500 URLs |
| Seobility | EUR 50/mo Premium | EUR | 12 Aug 2026 | A free forever audit tier, and the cheapest paid crawl in this group |
| Seomake | $49/mo Starter | USD | Today | Writes the corrected title, meta and headings instead of scoring them |
Mangools is the one worth a second look, because it is priced like a budget tool and is not specified like one. Basic bundles API and MCP access, which Ahrefs reserves for paid tiers with row caps and Semrush puts behind its top plan, and it includes 500 tracked AI prompts across eight models when Ahrefs Lite tracks five. What you give up is index depth and, on Basic, any extra seats at all.
If your shortlist has come down to the two biggest names rather than the cheaper field, the Ahrefs vs Semrush comparison runs both ladders line by line, and Ahrefs pricing breaks down every tier limit including credits, export caps and seat costs.
Ahrefs pricing in August 2026, and the three policies that catch people out
Read off ahrefs.com/pricing on 24 August 2026. Ahrefs prices in US dollars, which is one reason it stays the default for US teams even when cheaper tools exist.
| Ahrefs plan | Monthly | Extra seat | Rank Tracker keywords | Rank update |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29 | Not offered | Not included | Not included |
| Lite | $129 | $40/mo, max 2 | 750 | Weekly |
| Standard | $249 | $60/mo, max 5 | 2,000 | Weekly |
| Advanced | $449 | $80/mo, max 10 | 5,000 | Weekly |
| Enterprise | $1,499, annual commitment | $100/mo, unlimited | From 10,000 | Weekly |
Three policies are worth knowing before you compare Ahrefs to anything else. Ahrefs states that it never runs discounts, so there is no sale to wait for. There is no free trial of a paid tier, which means the only way to evaluate the index is to buy a month. And annual billing, the thing that saves you up to 17 percent, cannot be selected at checkout: you have to email support to arrange it. None of that is hidden, but none of it appears in a comparison table either.
The rank update column is the row that decides more switches than price does. Ahrefs refreshes Rank Tracker weekly on every tier including the $1,499 one. So do Moz, Mangools on its two lower plans, and Ubersuggest. Semrush refreshes daily on every plan from $139, and Mangools Agency refreshes daily too. If you report positions to a client every Monday, weekly is fine. If you are shipping changes and want to see them land, weekly is the wrong tool no matter what you pay.
Which Ahrefs alternatives actually give you an API
This is the field most roundups get wrong, and it is expensive to get wrong because API access is usually the reason a team is shopping in the first place. Verified against each vendor's own pricing and documentation between 22 and 24 August 2026.
Ahrefs
All paid tiers, with rows per request capped by plan: 100 on Lite, 250 on Standard, 500 on Advanced, uncapped on Enterprise. MCP included.
Mangools
Every plan, including Basic. API and MCP access are both listed as included rather than sold as an add-on.
Semrush
Top tier only, and units are bought separately on top. Unused units expire, and running out returns an error rather than throttling.
Majestic
API plan only, at 379.99 euros a month. Lite and Pro carry no API access at all, which surprises people who buy Pro for it.
Ubersuggest
None, at any tier or add-on. Their own answer is that there are no API access plans available at the moment.
Seomake
None. We audit and rewrite pages in the app and have no public API, so if API access is the requirement we are not the answer.
The pattern is that API access tracks vendor strategy rather than plan price. Mangools uses it to punch above its tier. Semrush treats it as a metered enterprise product. Ubersuggest has decided not to compete there at all. If you are pulling data into a warehouse or a client dashboard, that decision matters more than the monthly number, and it is worth reading how Semrush prices API units before assuming the top plan includes what you need.
Ahrefs against Seomake, line by line
These are different shapes of tool and the table is not flattering to us in several rows. If you came here for backlink data, the honest answer is that we do not have any and you should buy Ahrefs, Semrush or Majestic.

The row that matters is the one about writing the fix. Ahrefs will tell you a title tag is too long, that a page has no H1, that a cluster has a content gap. Then the work starts, and it is the work that sits in the backlog for six weeks. Seomake takes a URL and the keyword it should own and returns the rewritten title under 60 characters, the meta description in the 140 to 160 band, a heading outline and an opening paragraph, which is the part nobody has time for. That is a narrower product than Ahrefs, deliberately.
Plenty of teams keep both, and that is a reasonable outcome. What usually stops is paying a second research subscription that duplicates the first. If the on-page half is what you want automated, the on page SEO audit pillar shows exactly what the audit returns, and the AI SEO content generator covers the drafting side. Shopping the whole category rather than one vendor? The SEO ranking tools roundup lists the field, and Moz competitors covers the third suite most teams shortlist.
Questions people ask before switching off Ahrefs
What is the best Ahrefs alternative?
It depends which part of Ahrefs you actually open. For backlink data the closest swap is Semrush at $139 a month, or Majestic if links are the only job. For keyword research and rank tracking on a smaller budget, Mangools. For turning an audit into finished copy, that is what Seomake does. Most teams replace one half of Ahrefs, not all of it.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Ahrefs?
Yes, several. Ahrefs Lite is $129 a month. Mangools Basic is 37.70 euros a month billed annually, Moz Pro Standard is $99, Ubersuggest starts at $29 and Majestic Lite is 46.99 euros. The catch is that four of those bill in euros, so a US buyer pays whatever the card network converts on the day plus any foreign transaction fee.
How much does Ahrefs cost?
Ahrefs publishes five tiers: Starter at $29 a month, Lite at $129, Standard at $249, Advanced at $449 and Enterprise at $1,499 with an annual commitment. Paying annually saves up to 17 percent. Extra seats are charged on top, from $40 a month on Lite up to $100 on Enterprise.
Does Ahrefs have a free version?
Ahrefs Free exists but only for verified site owners, so you can run it on a domain you control and not on a competitor. There is no free trial of any paid tier. Ahrefs also states plainly that it never runs discounts, so waiting for a sale is not a strategy here.
Which Ahrefs alternative has an API?
Mangools is the surprise answer: it includes API and MCP access on every plan, including the cheapest one. Ahrefs ships an API on all paid tiers but caps rows per request by tier. Semrush gates its API behind the top plan plus units bought separately that expire. Ubersuggest has no API at any tier, and Majestic Lite and Pro carry none either.
Is Semrush better than Ahrefs?
Semrush is wider and Ahrefs is deeper. Semrush covers paid search, PR and social in the same subscription and is the only major suite that refreshes rank tracking daily rather than weekly. Ahrefs has the stronger backlink index and cleaner research workflow. Pick Semrush for breadth, Ahrefs for link work.
Can I replace Ahrefs with a free tool?
Not the link index, no. Google Search Console gives you your own query and link data for free and is genuinely useful, but it shows only your site, never a competitor. Every credible competitor backlink database costs money because crawling and storing the web costs money. Budget for that part or drop it deliberately.
Is Ahrefs worth it in 2026?
It is worth it if link research drives your decisions and you use the index weekly. It is poor value if you log in once a month to check rankings, because rank tracking alone is available for a third of the price elsewhere. Price the thing you actually open, not the feature list.
Judge the output, not the feature list
Run the audit on a page whose SEO you already know inside out. If it misses, you have lost a minute. If it is sharp, you know what it does at full scale.
