AI SEO tools: the best AI SEO software compared, from AI audits to agentic on-page and AI visibility tracking
We make one of the tools on this page. The table says where the others beat us, because a comparison that concedes nothing is worth nothing. Run ours on a real page first and judge the output.
AI SEO tools are four different products wearing one label
There is no best AI SEO tool overall, because the category contains four jobs that barely overlap. Audit-and-rewrite tools read a page and hand back the corrected copy. Agentic platforms deploy changes to a live site themselves. Content optimizers score a draft against the results while a writer works. AI visibility trackers count whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers cite you at all.
Pick the group first and the shortlist inside it is short. Most buying mistakes in this category come from comparing a rank tracker to a rewriter on price, discovering they do unrelated things, and concluding that AI SEO tools do not work.

What each kind of AI SEO tool actually does
AI audit and rewrite
Seomake, SEOptimer
Reads a live page against the keyword it should own and returns the corrected title, meta, heading outline and opening paragraph, with the issues and the evidence behind each one. The output is copy you paste in, so nothing changes without a human. This is the group to buy when the audit backlog never gets worked.
Agentic on-page deployment
OTTO SEO (Search Atlas)
Connects to the site and deploys the change itself: titles, metas, schema, internal links, through a pixel, a Cloudflare DNS install or a CMS integration. Fastest route to a fixed site you do not control the code of. The tradeoff is ownership, because pixel-applied changes live in the browser rather than your source, so they leave when the subscription does.
AI content optimization
Surfer, Semrush AI toolkit
Scores a draft against what currently ranks and gives a writer a target while they work: terms to include, structure to match, a number that moves. Narrow by design. It assumes you already decided what to write and want the draft to compete on the specific SERP.
AI visibility and AEO tracking
Profound, Otterly, Semrush
Runs a set of prompts against ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and others on a schedule, then reports whether your brand was named and which sources were cited. A monitoring product, not an optimization one. It tells you where you stand in AI answers and leaves the fixing to you.
AI SEO software compared on published entry prices
Entry tier only, because that is where most people start and where the vendors are most comparable. Several of these bill in euros and geolocate their pricing page, so we print the currency the vendor served us rather than converting it.
| AI SEO tool | Group | Entry price | What the AI produces | Buy it if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seomake | Audit and rewrite | $49/mo | Title, meta, heading outline, intro draft, keyword gaps | The issue list keeps growing and nobody works through it |
| OTTO SEO (Search Atlas) | Agentic | $99/mo, 1 project | Deployed titles, metas, schema, internal links | You manage client sites whose code you cannot touch |
| Surfer | Content optimization | From about 49 euros/mo | A live score and term targets while a writer drafts | Your writers need a target, not another audit |
| Semrush | Broad suite plus AI toolkit | $139/mo (SEO plan) | Writing assistance plus AI brand-mention tracking | You want one platform for organic, paid and AI visibility |
| Profound | AI visibility tracking | $99/mo billed yearly | Prompt-level answer monitoring, 50 prompts, ChatGPT only at entry | You need to know what ChatGPT says about your brand |
| Otterly.AI | AI visibility tracking | $29/mo, 15 prompts | Daily tracking across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot | You want multi-engine AI monitoring on a small budget |
| Moz Pro AI dashboard | Add-on | $20/mo on top of a Moz plan | 50 AI prompts against a Moz dashboard | You already pay for Moz and want AI visibility beside it |
Search Atlas, Profound and Otterly read 14 August 2026; Moz 9 August 2026; Semrush 9 August 2026; Surfer 31 July 2026. Surfer's pricing page geolocates and served euros, so it is printed in euros. Profound's entry tier tracks ChatGPT only and its multi-engine coverage starts one tier up, which is the detail most comparisons of AI visibility tools leave out.
The per-prompt arithmetic on the tracking tools is worth doing before you commit, because the unit is not comparable between vendors: a prompt checked daily against four engines is a different product from a prompt checked weekly against one. We work through that in detail on answer engine optimization tools, and the classic non-AI suites sit in one table on SEO ranking tools compared.
What AI genuinely changed about SEO work, and what it did not
Genuinely changed
The cost of the first draft collapsed. Rewriting forty title tags used to be a week of somebody's attention and is now an afternoon of review. Auditing a page against its keyword, once a judgment call that needed an experienced specialist, is now reproducible and cheap enough to run on every page.
A second change is newer and larger: search is no longer only Google. A growing share of buyers ask an assistant instead of scrolling results, which created an entire product category that did not exist three years ago.
Did not change
Nothing about what earns a ranking. Pages still win by answering a query better than the pages above them, and generated text with nothing specific in it loses to a thin page written by somebody who knows the subject. Google's helpful-content guidance is explicit that it judges the content, not the method.
Nor did AI change the diagnosis step. Deciding which pages matter, which keywords are winnable and what is actually true about your product is still the part that determines whether any of the output is worth publishing.
The practical read is that AI moved the bottleneck rather than removing it. When drafting was expensive, the constraint was production. Now that drafting is cheap, the constraint is judgment and review, which is why the tools worth paying for are the ones that make review fast: evidence attached to each issue, a diff you can read, and no changes shipped without approval. That is the same reason we hand back copy instead of deploying it, a choice compared directly against the agentic approach on the OTTO SEO and Search Atlas alternative page.
Pick by the bottleneck, not by the feature list
A backlog of pages nobody rewrites
Audit and rewrite
Start with the SEO audit tool on one bad page and see whether the rewrite is usable before you buy anything.
Client sites you cannot edit
Agentic deployment
OTTO is the mature option here. Read what happens to pixel-applied changes when you cancel, covered on our OTTO SEO alternative page.
Writers who need a target
Content optimization
Surfer scores the draft, we write the brief. Different halves, compared on the Surfer SEO alternative page.
No idea if AI answers mention you
Visibility tracking
Measure before you spend. Our AI visibility tracker page explains what these tools count and what they cannot.
Thin pages with no structure
Brief generation
An outline plus the missing subtopics beats a generated article. That is what the AI SEO content generator produces.
You want AI engines to cite you
GEO, not tracking
Monitoring is not optimizing. Generative engine optimization covers what actually earns a citation.
One warning that applies across the whole category. Several tools here meter the AI by credits, prompts or generations, and the sticker price tells you very little about what a month actually costs once a real site is loaded in. Check the unit before the price: prompts per month on the tracking tools, crawls per month on the audit tools, words or articles on the writers. The SEO software pricing comparison works every vendor's ladder out per unit, and if you are choosing between us and the broad suites, the Semrush alternative page is the direct version of that comparison.
The questions buyers actually ask
What are AI SEO tools?
AI SEO tools use a language model to do part of the SEO work rather than only measure it. In practice they fall into four groups: tools that audit a page and write the corrected copy, agentic platforms that deploy changes to a live site, content optimizers that score a draft against the results, and AI visibility trackers that watch whether ChatGPT and Perplexity mention your brand.
What are the best AI SEO tools in 2026?
For auditing a page and getting the rewrite back, Seomake. For deploying fixes across sites you cannot edit, OTTO SEO from Search Atlas. For scoring a draft while a writer works, Surfer. For tracking whether AI answers cite you, Profound or Otterly. There is no single winner because these four do genuinely different jobs.
What is an agentic SEO tool?
An agentic SEO tool acts on your site instead of reporting to you. It connects to the site, decides which changes to make, and deploys them, usually through a JavaScript pixel, a DNS proxy or a CMS plugin. OTTO SEO is the best-known example. The gain is speed, and the cost is that you no longer review every change before it ships.
Are AI SEO tools worth it for a small business?
They are worth it when writing is the bottleneck, not when reporting is. A small team that already knows its titles are weak and its pages thin gets more from a tool that produces the corrected copy than from a fifth dashboard confirming the problem. If nobody has touched the site in six months, no tool of any kind will help.
How much do AI SEO tools cost?
Entry tiers run from about $29 to $199 a month. Otterly starts at $29 for AI visibility tracking, Seomake at $49, Surfer near 49 euros, Search Atlas with OTTO at $99, Profound at $99 billed yearly, and Semrush at $139 for the plan that carries its AI toolkit. Agency tiers reach $500 to $1,000.
Do AI SEO tools replace an SEO specialist?
No, and the tools that claim otherwise are the ones to be careful with. What they replace is the mechanical middle of the job: rewriting forty title tags, drafting outlines, checking a page against its keyword. Deciding what to target, what is true about your product, and what to say that nobody else can still needs a person.
What is the difference between AI SEO tools and AEO tools?
AI SEO tools help you rank in a classic search engine. AEO tools, sometimes called answer engine or generative engine optimization tools, measure and improve whether AI assistants cite you in their answers. The overlap is real but the metrics differ: one counts positions and clicks, the other counts mentions and citations across a set of tracked prompts.
