Search Atlas alternative and OTTO SEO alternative: pricing, what the automation actually deploys, and an honest review
We sell a competing tool, so weigh this accordingly. OTTO beats us on several things and the tables below name them. Every Search Atlas price and limit here was read off searchatlas.com, most recently on 5 September 2026. One thing worth knowing before you pick a tier: Search Atlas now states which AI engines each plan tracks. Growth at $199 covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode, and Copilot plus Perplexity only start at Pro. None of this is lifted from someone's affiliate roundup.
OTTO applies the fix to the browser. We write the fix into your page.
OTTO SEO is Search Atlas's automation agent: it crawls your site, finds on-page and technical problems, and deploys the corrections itself, usually through a JavaScript pixel that rewrites the page in the visitor's browser. Seomake stops one step earlier and on purpose. It audits the page against the keyword it should own, writes the corrected title, meta, headings and copy, and hands them to you as text you commit to your own site. Slower on day one, permanent afterwards.
That is the decision in one line. If you manage dozens of client sites you have no code access to, OTTO's pixel is a genuine superpower and $99 a month is fair for it. If you own the site, can edit it, and want the improvements to survive a cancelled subscription, a tool that produces source changes fits better and costs half as much to start.
Search Atlas pricing, plan limits and connection methods verified against searchatlas.com on 25 July 2026 and re-verified on 31 July, 14 August, 2 September and 5 September 2026. Month-to-month prices, seat counts and project limits are unchanged across all five checks. New on the 5 September check: Search Atlas now displays an annual billing option at 20 percent off, and states which AI engines each tier tracks.
OTTO SEO pricing in September 2026, and what each tier actually buys
OTTO is not sold on its own. You buy a Search Atlas plan and OTTO comes with it, which is why the entry price is $99 rather than something smaller. The numbers below are the published monthly rates and the per-plan limits shown on the pricing page.
| Plan | Monthly | OTTO projects | AI quota | Article credits | On-page audits | Target keywords | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $99 | 1 | 500 | 30 | 40 | 120 | 1 |
| Growth | $199 | 2 | 1,000 | 60 | 100 | 300 | 3 |
| Pro | $399 | 4 | 2,000 | 90 | 200 | 600 | 5 |
| Agency | $999 | 10 | 10,000 | 300 | 500 | 1,500 | 10 |
The column that decides your real bill is "OTTO projects". One project is one connected site. An agency with six clients cannot run them on Starter or Growth, so the practical agency entry point is Pro at $399 for four sites or Agency at $999 for ten. Read the AI quota the same way: it is a monthly credit pool that content generation, audits and the semantic grader all draw from, so heavy months land you on the next tier.
The seats column is the one most comparisons skip, and it is the reason Search Atlas looks more expensive than it is. Three seats on a $199 plan and five on a $399 plan are included, while Ahrefs bundles exactly one seat at every tier and charges $40 to $80 a month for each additional person. That arithmetic, run against a five person team, is in Search Atlas pricing for agencies, and the same two columns across every major platform are on SEO software for agencies.
For contrast, our own AI SEO software pricing runs $49 Starter, $149 Growth and $499 Agency, and page audits are unlimited on every tier because we do not meter them. At the top end OTTO's Agency plan is roughly twice our Agency plan, and it does considerably more for the money. At the bottom end we are less than half the price and do considerably less.

The summary is not subtle. OTTO is a platform and Seomake is a tool. If your problem is that SEO work is not getting done across many properties, the platform is the right shape of purchase, and the wider best SEO tools comparison puts both of them next to Ahrefs and Semrush. If your problem is that one site's pages are weak and nobody has time to rewrite them, you are buying a much smaller thing than a platform.
The pixel question: what "deploys the fix for you" really means
This is the single most important thing to understand before you buy, and it is buried in the docs rather than the marketing. OTTO offers three connection routes and they are not equivalent.
The OTTO Pixel
A script in your header. Changes are applied in the browser after the page loads. Your HTML on disk never changes. This is the default route and the one most sites end up on.
Cloudflare DNS
A no-code install at the edge instead of in your template. Convenient, and it has the same property: the origin page is untouched and the modification happens in front of it.
CMS and repo write-back
WordPress, HubSpot, Webflow, Shopify, Contentful, Duda, GitHub and Vercel. This route edits the real thing. If you have the option, use it.
Client-side rewriting works. Google renders JavaScript, and rendered titles and schema do get picked up. The catch is what you own at the end. A year of pixel-applied optimizations is a year of improvements you are renting. Stop paying and every title reverts, every injected schema block vanishes, and the page is exactly as weak as the day you signed up. Nothing was fixed, it was overlaid.
There is a second cost that shows up later. Answer engines are more literal than Google about what they can read, and a pixel adds a rendering step between your content and anything trying to extract it. If getting quoted by AI assistants matters to you, our answer engine optimization guide covers what has to be in the served HTML, and the AI visibility tracker comparison covers how to measure whether it worked.
None of this makes OTTO a bad product. It makes the pixel a tradeoff: speed and reach now, in exchange for changes that are not really yours. Agencies servicing clients who will never grant repository access are trading exactly the right way. A founder with a Git repo open in the next tab is not.
When OTTO is the right buy, and when it is not
Buy OTTO SEO if
- You run four or more client sites and the bottleneck is execution capacity, not knowing what to do.
- Clients will give you a pixel or a DNS record but never repository access.
- You want technical SEO, content, Google Business Profile and link building on one invoice.
- Local SEO is a real part of your service and you are tired of managing profiles by hand.
- You already pay separately for research and reporting, and want the doing part automated.
Look for an OTTO alternative if
- You own one or two sites and can edit them, so renting client-side changes makes no sense.
- $99 a month for a platform is more than the job needs when the job is on-page work.
- You want the corrected copy in your repository, reviewed like any other change.
- Metered audits annoy you. Auditing a page four times while you iterate should not cost credits.
- You want to see real output on your own URL before creating an account.
A middle path exists and it is often the correct one. Use a platform for the client sites you cannot touch, and something lighter for the properties you control. Nobody is served by paying agency-tier prices to optimize a nine-page site you built yourself.
OTTO SEO vs Semrush vs Seomake: three different purchases
This comparison gets asked constantly and it is slightly the wrong question, because the three tools sit at different points of the same workflow. Semrush tells you what to do. OTTO does it to your site. Seomake writes what you should publish. Prices read off each vendor's own pricing page, Search Atlas on 5 September 2026 and the others in the first week of September 2026.
| Tool | Entry price | Strongest at | Buy it if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush | $139/mo SEO plan, $117.33/mo billed yearly | Research depth: keywords, backlinks, competitor and ad data | You need the numbers to argue a strategy and to report on it |
| OTTO SEO | $99/mo Starter, 1 project | Execution at scale across sites you cannot edit yourself | Work is not shipping and you need an agent that deploys it |
| Seomake | $49/mo Starter, unlimited audits | Turning one page into the best answer for its query | You know the target and want the finished rewrite, not a score |
Semrush and OTTO overlap less than the price tags suggest, which is why agencies routinely pay for both. If you are weighing the research half specifically, the Semrush alternative comparison goes line by line, and the Ahrefs alternative page covers the other big research suite. For the full ladder across every vendor named here, see our SEO software pricing comparison, and for the ten tools Semrush is most often weighed against, Semrush vs its competitors.
Search Atlas alternative: what you are actually replacing
Search Atlas and OTTO are not two products, and the confusion costs people money. Search Atlas is the platform you buy. OTTO is the automation feature inside it, and every Search Atlas plan meters OTTO by project count: one project on Starter at $99, two on Growth at $199, four on Pro at $399, ten on Agency at $999. So when someone says they want a Search Atlas alternative, the first question is which half they are replacing, because the answer is different for each.
Replacing the research suite
Search Atlas bundles keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks, content briefs and a site audit. If that bundle is what you use, the honest swaps are Semrush at $139 a month or Ahrefs at $129, both with deeper data behind them. We replace none of it and would be wasting your time to pretend otherwise.
Replacing the automation
If OTTO is the reason you are there, the alternatives are thin, because very few tools will actually change your page. We are one of them, from a different direction: OTTO injects fixes through a script at render time, we write the corrected title, meta and headings for you to commit. Section 05 above explains why that difference matters when the pixel goes away.
Replacing the agency tier
Most people searching for Search Atlas competitors are on Agency at $999 and doing the math on ten client sites. SEO PowerSuite sells an unlimited project license at EUR 349 a year, and SEOptimer white labels reports from $39 a month. Neither automates anything, which is the trade.
The cheapest useful comparison here is on price shape rather than features. Search Atlas prices by project, so cost scales with how many sites you touch. We price by seat at $49 a month with no project cap, which is cheaper for an in house team on one large site and more expensive for nobody, because there is nothing to meter. If you are weighing the whole category rather than this one vendor, the SEO tools comparison puts the same prices side by side, and the audit tool comparison covers the cheaper crawlers.
Search Atlas and OTTO SEO, question by question
What is OTTO SEO?
OTTO SEO is the automation product inside Search Atlas. It crawls a connected site, finds technical and on-page problems, and deploys the corrections itself through a JavaScript pixel, a Cloudflare DNS integration or a direct CMS connection. It also covers content generation, Google Business Profile work and link building.
How much does OTTO SEO cost?
OTTO SEO is sold as part of a Search Atlas subscription. Read on searchatlas.com/pricing on 5 September 2026, the month-to-month tiers are Starter $99 for one OTTO project, Growth $199 for two, Pro $399 for four and Agency from $999 for ten. Search Atlas now also shows annual billing at 20 percent off, which brings those to $79, $159 and $319 a month. There is no cheaper OTTO-only plan, so $79 is the true entry point.
How does OTTO SEO deploy its changes?
Most changes ship through the OTTO Pixel, a script you add to your header, or through a Cloudflare DNS install. The pixel rewrites titles, metas, schema and internal links in the browser after the page loads. Your source code is untouched, so removing the pixel removes every change with it.
Is OTTO SEO worth it?
It is worth it if you manage many client sites you cannot edit directly and you want breadth: technical fixes, content, local SEO and link building on one bill. It is poor value if you own one site, can edit your own code, and mainly want the on-page work done properly and permanently.
What is the best OTTO SEO alternative?
It depends what you are replacing. For deploy-it-for-me breadth across many client sites, nothing else in the category matches OTTO, and honest answers should say so. For a single site where you want the corrected copy in your own repository, Seomake starts at $49 a month with unlimited audits.
OTTO SEO vs Semrush: which should I buy?
Buy Semrush for research and reporting, because its keyword, backlink and competitor data is far deeper. Buy OTTO if you want the work executed rather than reported. They solve different halves of the job, and plenty of agencies pay for both rather than choosing.
Does OTTO SEO work without WordPress?
Yes. The pixel and the Cloudflare DNS route are CMS agnostic, so a custom-built site can connect without a plugin. Native write-back integrations exist for WordPress, HubSpot, Webflow, Shopify, Contentful and Duda, plus GitHub and Vercel connectors for code-based sites.
What happens to OTTO SEO changes if I cancel?
Anything applied through the pixel disappears when the pixel stops loading, because those edits were never written into your pages. Changes pushed through a CMS or repository integration are real file edits and stay. Check which route your fixes actually used before you rely on them.
What is a good Search Atlas alternative?
It depends which half you use. For the research suite, Semrush at $139 or Ahrefs at $129 both carry deeper data. For the OTTO automation, very little competes, because few tools change your page at all. Seomake writes the corrected title, meta and headings into copy you commit, for $49 a month with no project cap.
Who are Search Atlas competitors?
Semrush and Ahrefs compete on research depth, Moz Pro on price at the low end, and SEO PowerSuite on licensing with an unlimited project year at EUR 349. On the automation side the field is small: Seomake writes fixes into committable copy, and most other tools stop at a prioritized issue list.
What are the best Search Atlas alternatives?
Pick by the job, because no single tool replaces all of Search Atlas. For research depth, Semrush from $139 a month or Ahrefs Lite at $129. For content scoring, Surfer from EUR 99 on its Standard plan. For writing the fix into pages you already have, Seomake at $49 a month. Automation on the scale of OTTO has no close rival.
Is Search Atlas the same as OTTO SEO?
No. Search Atlas is the platform you subscribe to and OTTO is the automation feature inside it. You cannot buy OTTO on its own, and every Search Atlas plan meters it by project count, from one project on the $99 Starter plan to ten on the $999 Agency plan.
If what you actually want is the automation idea without the platform, our SEO automation loop shows where a human still has to sign off, and the on page SEO page covers what gets checked and rewritten on every run.
Audit a page before you rent a platform
Paste a URL and the keyword it should rank for. Seomake reads the live page, scores it, and writes the corrected title, meta and headings you can commit today. No account, no card, no pixel.
