Frase alternatives for fixing pages you already published and how rivals compare on price

Frase is $49 a month on Starter, and that buys one site, 10 articles and 50 audit pages. If your real backlog is pages that already exist and rank badly, the audit quota is what runs out first. SEOMake audits any live URL against its keyword and writes the corrected title, meta description, headings and intro, with unlimited page audits from $49 a month.

No account. No card. Real output in about 20 seconds.

02 / The short answer

The best Frase alternative depends on which half of Frase you use

Frase now sells two jobs in one subscription. The first is making new content: research a topic, build a brief, draft the article, publish it to WordPress or its own hosted CMS. The second is maintaining what you already have: audit existing pages, score them for SEO and AI search, and rewrite the ones that slip. Most people shopping for a Frase alternative are unhappy with the limits on one half, not both.

If the new-content half is what you need, Surfer and Clearscope are the realistic swaps, and Frase is usually still the cheaper of the three. If the existing-pages half is what you need, you are paying for 10 articles a month you may not write, while Starter caps audits at 50 pages on one site. That second buyer is who SEOMake is for: paste a URL and its keyword, get the score, the evidence and the rewritten page elements, with no audit quota on any plan.

03 / Checked at source

Frase has reshaped its plans twice in a year, and most comparison pages missed both

Search for frase alternatives and page one is almost entirely other vendors ranking their own products: AirOps, Keyword Insights, Rankability, Content Harmony, Scalenut, Orchly, BriefIQ and Machined. They describe Frase in general terms. None of them tells you what a Frase plan now includes, which is the thing you need to know to judge whether an alternative is cheaper.

Here is what changed. In late 2025 Frase sold Starter at $45 a month with 15 content projects and one user, and Professional at $115 with three users, extra users at $25 each up to nine, and SEO Analytics across unlimited domains (archived frase.io/pricing, 27 September 2025). The 2026 ladder keeps two of the same names but reshapes them: Starter is now $49 for one seat and one site, Professional is $129 for three seats and five sites, extra seats are $29, and a new Scale plan at $299 covers ten domains. Older reviews still quote $15, $45 and $115.

The migration terms matter if you are on the old app. Frase's Legacy Migration Guide says moving is optional, there is no deadline "at this time", and eligible subscriptions keep their current price. It also says plans are "sized differently" afterward, that Starter "covers a single site", that credits now reset on your billing date instead of the 1st, and that older deprecated plans are not eligible to migrate at all and get a 7-day trial instead. If you run several sites on a Legacy plan, that is the moment people start pricing alternatives.

04 / What Frase costs now

Frase pricing and plan limits, September 2026

Read from frase.io/pricing on 26 September 2026 from a United States connection. The page states "Prices in USD". Enterprise is priced by sales and is the only tier with white-label reports and a branded client portal.

Frase Starter, Professional and Scale compared on monthly and yearly price, seats, sites, articles, audit pages, overage rates, Content Guard, AI Visibility engines and reporting history
Frase plan Starter Professional Scale
Price, month to month $49 $129 $299
Price, billed yearly $39 a month $103 a month $239 a month
Seats and sites 1 seat, 1 site 3 seats, 5 sites, extra seats $29 5 seats, 10 domains, extra seats $29
Articles a month 10 40 100
Audit pages a month 50 250 1,000
Past the limit Holds at the limit $5 per article, $0.50 per audit page (opt in) $4 per article, $0.40 per audit page (opt in)
Content Guard pages watched 10 75 300
AI Visibility engines ChatGPT, Google AI adds Perplexity adds Claude and Gemini
Reporting history Current only 3 months 12 months

Do the division before you compare. Starter works out to $0.98 per audit page if you use all 50. Professional is about $0.52 a page at 250, then $0.50 for each extra page once you switch pay-as-you-go on. Scale is about $0.30 a page at 1,000. Those numbers only count if you also use the articles, because the plan price pays for both. The seat and legacy math is broken down further in our Frase pricing breakdown.

05 / The alternatives, honestly

Frase alternatives compared on price and on the job each one does

Each row is priced from the vendor's own page. The last column is where Frase is the better buy, because every one of these tools loses to Frase on something.

Frase alternatives compared on entry price, main job, where each beats Frase and where Frase is better
Tool Entry price Built for Beats Frase on Frase is better for
SEOMake Starter $49 a month, or $490 a year Correcting pages that are already live: score, evidence, rewritten title, meta, headings, intro, draft Unlimited page audits on every plan, no Search Console connection, nothing to crawl first Research, full articles, CMS publishing, decay monitoring and AI visibility tracking
Surfer Discovery $59, or $49 yearly Writing new content against a live SERP, with a content score NLP term scoring and competitor benchmarking in the editor Auditing existing pages cheaply: Surfer's one-page Audit starts on Pro at $219
Clearscope Essentials $129 Grading a draft against the terms ranking pages use Unlimited users on every plan Price: Frase Starter is $80 a month less and includes a site audit
Semrush Content Toolkit $60 a month Drafting inside the Semrush account you already pay for Sits next to Semrush keyword data Auditing existing pages, which the Toolkit does not do (that is the On Page SEO Checker)
Semrush SEO Writing Assistant Guru $249.95 a month Checking a draft in Google Docs or WordPress Plagiarism checks and readability in the editor Price: below Guru you get 2 documents lifetime, so the real entry point is $249.95

Two of these deserve a closer look if you are leaving Frase for the writing side. Surfer's editor is still the one most content teams benchmark against, but its plans have been renamed too, and the one-page Audit that corresponds to Frase's audit starts on Pro; our Surfer SEO Audit breakdown covers which Surfer plan includes what. Clearscope is the choice for a big editorial team, since it never charges per seat, and Frase vs Clearscope vs MarketMuse prices that trade-off in detail.

If Semrush is already on the company card, check what it covers before buying anything. The Content Toolkit at $60 drafts inside Semrush, and the SEO Writing Assistant is effectively a Guru feature. Our SEO Writing Assistant alternative page lays out the plan gates.

06 / Stay or switch

When to keep Frase, and when an alternative is the better purchase

Keep Frase if

  • You publish new articles every week and use most of the monthly allowance.
  • You want the tool to push posts to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix, or host the blog.
  • Content Guard watching your top pages for decay is worth the plan on its own.
  • You want AI visibility tracking bundled rather than bought separately.
  • You are on an eligible Legacy plan and the migration keeps your price.

Look at an alternative if

  • You mostly fix existing pages and write few new ones.
  • You hit 50 audit pages on Starter, or need more than one site on it.
  • Your team is large enough that $29 a seat adds up faster than the plan.
  • You need white-label client reports below Enterprise pricing.
  • Your Legacy plan is one of the deprecated ones that cannot migrate.
07 / Where we fit

What SEOMake does as a Frase alternative, and what it leaves out

SEOMake replaces the audit-and-fix half of Frase, not the rest. It does not research topics, write full-length articles, publish article bodies to a CMS (it publishes only the approved title and meta description, to WordPress or Shopify), host a blog, keep brand voices, watch pages for ranking decay or track AI citations. If those are what you use Frase for, stay on Frase or move to Surfer or Clearscope.

What it does is narrower and faster. Paste a live URL and the keyword the page should rank for. SEOMake reads the page's on-page signals, scores it, lists every issue with the evidence it found, and writes the correction: a title under 60 characters with the keyword first, a meta description at the length Google actually shows, a heading outline built around the query, an opening paragraph, and the subtopics the page is missing. Paid plans add a 400 to 700 word draft that follows the outline. There is no site to connect, no Search Console permission to request and no crawl to wait for, so it works on a client's page, a competitor's page or a page on a staging copy the same way.

Page audits are unlimited on every plan. Starter is $49 a month or $490 a year with 20 drafts a month, Growth is $149 with 100 drafts, and Agency is $499 with 500 drafts and audits on any site, whoever the page belongs to. Full plan details are on the pricing page, and a worked example of the output is on the SEO audit tool page. If Content Guard is what you would miss, the content refresh tool page shows how teams pair a free decay report with SEOMake's rewrite.

08 / Switching without losing a month

How to move the page-fixing work off Frase in three steps

1

Export the pages Frase flagged

Before the billing date, pull the list of pages from your latest Frase audit and Content Guard alerts, with the keyword each one targets. That list is the work queue.

2

Run each URL through SEOMake

Paste the URL and keyword, take the rewritten title, meta description, outline and intro, and publish them in your CMS. There is no per-page cap to ration.

3

Decide what to do with the writing

If you still publish new articles every week, keep Frase Starter at $39 yearly for that. If you do not, cancel at the end of the term; downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle.

For the pages you are about to fix, the quickest win is usually the title and meta description, because that is what decides whether a page already on page two gets the click. Our on-page SEO page explains what the audit checks, and the AI content page shows what the draft looks like.

09 / Asked and answered

Frase alternatives, question by question

What is the best alternative to Frase?

It depends on which part of Frase you use. For writing new articles against the SERP, Surfer is the closest match. For grading drafts with a large team, Clearscope, because every plan has unlimited users. For correcting pages already live without an audit-page quota, SEOMake at $49 a month with unlimited page audits.

How much does Frase cost per month?

Frase Starter is $49 month to month or $39 a month billed yearly. Professional is $129, or $103 yearly, and Scale is $299, or $239 yearly. Enterprise is priced by sales. Those are the US dollar prices on frase.io/pricing on 26 September 2026. Extra seats are $29 a month on Professional and Scale.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Frase?

Not for the whole workflow. Frase Starter at $39 a month yearly is already one of the cheapest research-to-publish tools. Where it gets expensive is audits: Starter stops at 50 audit pages and one site, and Professional charges $0.50 per page past 250. SEOMake Starter is $49 with unlimited page audits.

Is Frase still worth it in 2026?

For a solo writer or small team that wants research, drafting, publishing and decay monitoring in one subscription, yes. It is harder to justify if you mostly need existing pages fixed, if you manage more than one site on Starter, or if you need white-label client reports, which Frase reserves for Enterprise.

What happened to Frase Solo, Basic and Team?

They are gone from the pricing page. Frase moved to Starter and Professional at $45 and $115 in 2025, then rebuilt the ladder in 2026 as Starter $49, Professional $129 and Scale $299. Its migration guide says older deprecated plans are not eligible to move over and are offered a 7-day trial instead.

Do I have to move off Legacy Frase?

Not yet. Frase's Legacy Migration Guide says migrating to the new app is optional, there is no deadline "at this time", and eligible subscriptions keep their current price. Limits are sized differently after the move, though: new Starter covers one site, and seats past the included ones cost $29 a month each.

Frase vs Surfer, which is better value?

Frase is cheaper to start: Starter is $49 against Surfer Discovery at $59. For auditing existing pages the gap widens, because Frase includes 50 audit pages on Starter while Surfer's one-page Audit starts on Pro at $219. Surfer is stronger at scoring a draft against competing pages; Frase adds publishing and decay monitoring.

Does Frase audit existing pages?

Yes. Every plan includes a site audit measured in audit pages: 50 a month on Starter, 250 on Professional and 1,000 on Scale. Frase scores those pages for SEO and GEO and lists the gaps, and Content Guard can draft a revision when a watched page starts losing rank.

Can SEOMake replace Frase completely?

No, and we would not pretend it can. SEOMake does not research topics, write full articles, publish article bodies to a CMS, host a blog, track AI citations or watch pages for decay. It does one job: audit a live URL against its keyword and write the corrected title, meta description, headings, intro and a draft.

Frase prices, limits and overage rates were read from frase.io/pricing on 26 September 2026, requested from a United States connection; migration terms from docs.frase.io/legacy-migration-guide the same day; 2025 prices from the archived frase.io/pricing of 27 September 2025. Surfer prices are from surfer.com/pricing, read 25 September 2026 from a US connection. Clearscope prices were read 18 September 2026, the Semrush Content Toolkit price 10 September 2026, and Semrush Guru from semrush.com/kb/1547 on 25 September 2026. Vendor prices change without notice. If the checkout shows something different, trust the checkout.
