ContentShake AI pricing in 2026: what Semrush Content Toolkit costs now, and a ContentShake AI alternative for pages you already publish
Semrush renamed ContentShake AI to Content Toolkit, and the old product URLs now redirect. The price, the article limits and the add-ons below were read from Semrush's own pricing page and knowledge base, not from a review. If the pages you need ranking already exist, test that first: paste one below.
What ContentShake AI costs now, in one paragraph
ContentShake AI no longer exists under that name. Semrush sells the same job as the Content Toolkit, listed at $60 a month on its pricing page and in its knowledge base, with a 7 day free trial. That price buys AI article generation, SEO briefs, topic ideas, content optimization, AI images, up to 50 brand voices and WordPress publishing to up to 100 sites. The limit that shapes real use is 5 SEO-boosted articles a month, the ones written with advanced SERP analysis, with 10 more available for $30 a month. Additional users are $20 a month each.
One caution on the headline number. Semrush's pricing page displays $60 with annual billing selected by default, and the month-to-month rate is not in the page markup we fetched, so check the billing toggle before you subscribe. At the listed rate the toolkit is $720 a year for one person.
Where ContentShake AI went, traced on Semrush's own servers
Most pages that rank for ContentShake AI pricing were written before the rename, so we checked the vendor directly on 10 September 2026. Requesting semrush.com/contentshake/ returns a 301 permanent redirect to semrush.com/content/. The old App Center address, semrush.com/apps/contentshake/, redirects to the same place. The page it lands on is titled Content Toolkit.
The old name has not fully left the building. The navigation markup Semrush ships on that Content Toolkit page still identifies the active tool as tools.contentshake:index. Customers see the new brand. The code underneath still calls it ContentShake, which is a fair sign this is a rename and an expansion rather than a new product.
Then there is the article limit, where Semrush contradicts itself. The Content Toolkit pricing page lists 10,000 articles a month on its single Base plan. The knowledge base article titled Content Toolkit: Pricing and Limits lists standard articles as unlimited. In practice neither ceiling will bind a normal team. The one that will is the 5 SEO-boosted articles a month, and both pages agree on that figure.
We have seen this pattern before. When Semrush retired its Guru plan, its own pricing page kept recommending Guru for months, which we documented on the Semrush Guru plan price page. Renames leave a trail, and the search results keep selling the old name long after the vendor stops.
What $60 buys in Content Toolkit, against what $49 buys here
Semrush figures come from semrush.com/pricing/content/ and the Content Toolkit pricing article in its knowledge base, both read on 10 September 2026. They are two different products aimed at two different jobs, and the first row matters more than every row under it.
| Line item | Content Toolkit (was ContentShake AI) | Seomake |
|---|---|---|
| What it is for | Generating new articles from a topic or brief, then optimizing and publishing them | Correcting a page you already published against the keyword it should rank for |
| Price | $60 a month on the pricing page, shown with annual billing selected. The knowledge base lists the same $60 a month | Starter $49 a month, or $294 a year. Growth $149 a month |
| Articles or drafts | Pricing page: 10,000 articles a month. Knowledge base: unlimited standard articles | 20 content drafts a month on Starter, 100 on Growth, each 400 to 700 words |
| SERP-informed writing | 5 SEO-boosted articles a month, 10 more for $30 a month | Every audit reads the live page and the keyword before it writes anything |
| Briefs and outlines | SEO Brief Generator, included | Heading outline of one H1 and 5 to 8 H2 or H3 entries, plus keyword gaps |
| Title and meta rewrite | Handled inside the Content Optimizer suggestions | A title under 60 characters with the keyword first, and a 140 to 160 character meta |
| Publishing | One-click WordPress export to up to 100 sites, Google Docs, Mailchimp | None. You paste the corrected copy into your CMS |
| Images and brand voice | AI image generation and up to 50 saved brand voices | Neither |
| Extra people | Additional users $20 a month each | 1 seat on Starter, 3 on Growth |
| Trying it | 7 day free trial | First audit runs with no account and no card |
Where Content Toolkit wins, the table says so: publishing, images, brand voices and cheap extra seats are all things we do not offer. The content brief side of the comparison, including what Frase, Clearscope and MarketMuse charge for it, is on our SEO content brief generator page.
The four ContentShake AI pricing numbers that matter more than $60
A single-plan product looks simple to price. It stops being simple the moment a second person joins or you publish more than five articles you care about, so here is the arithmetic from Semrush's own published figures.
$12
per SEO-boosted article
Five boosted articles are included in $60. If the boosted ones are the articles you actually publish, that is the real unit price, not the headline article allowance.
$3
per extra boosted article
The add-on is 10 more boosted articles for $30 a month. Once you are past five a month, the marginal boosted article is cheap, so volume teams should budget for the add-on from day one.
$20
per extra seat
Semrush lists additional users at $20 a month on the Content Toolkit pricing page. A writer, an editor and a reviewer is $100 a month before any add-on.
$720
a year at the listed rate
Twelve months at $60. The pricing page shows that figure with annual billing selected, so confirm the month-to-month price on the toggle before you commit.
A realistic small team setup, one owner plus two writers publishing ten boosted articles a month, comes to $60 for the plan, $40 for two extra seats and $30 for the boosted add-on. That is $130 a month, before any Semrush SEO plan, which is a separate subscription starting at $139. The full SEO ladder and what changed on it this year is on our Semrush pricing page.
When Content Toolkit is the right buy, and when a ContentShake AI alternative is
Renew or buy Content Toolkit if
- Your bottleneck is producing new articles, and you publish several a week.
- You run WordPress, or manage many WordPress sites, and want one-click publishing.
- Several brands or clients need their own saved voice, since up to 50 are included.
- You want images generated in the same workspace instead of a separate tool.
- Extra writers need logins, and $20 a seat is cheaper than most of the category.
Look for an alternative if
- Your site already has the pages, and they sit on page three or worse for their keyword.
- You need the title, meta description and headings of a live URL corrected, not a new article.
- Five SERP-informed articles a month is not enough and you do not want to meter them.
- Your CMS is not WordPress, so the publishing integration buys you nothing.
- You mainly want a content score and editor, which is the job Surfer is built around.
If the content scoring route fits better, the Surfer plans and what each one meters are laid out on the Surfer SEO alternative page. A closer look at whether the toolkit earns its price for a working content team is in our Semrush Content Toolkit review.
What we do instead, and what we do not do at all
We are not a like-for-like replacement, and pretending otherwise would waste your trial. Seomake does not publish to WordPress, does not generate images, does not store brand voices and does not produce thousands of articles a month. If that is the job, Content Toolkit is the better purchase and it is fairly priced for it.
The job we do is the one a generator skips. Most sites that pay for an AI writer already have dozens of pages that are indexed and going nowhere. Writing article number forty-one does not move article number twelve. Seomake reads a live URL and the keyword it should rank for, scores the page, lists what is costing it the ranking, and writes the correction: a title under 60 characters with the keyword first, a meta description at the length Google renders, a heading outline for the intent, an opening paragraph, the terms the page is missing, and on paid plans a 400 to 700 word draft that follows that outline.
Starter is $49 a month with unlimited page audits and 20 drafts. Growth is $149 with 5 sites, 3 seats and 100 drafts. Plans are on our pricing page, and the full output of an audit is shown field by field on the AI SEO content generator page. The fastest way to decide is the audit at the top of this page, on a page of yours that should be ranking and is not.
ContentShake AI pricing, question by question
How much does ContentShake AI cost?
ContentShake AI is now sold as Semrush Content Toolkit, listed at $60 a month. Read on 10 September 2026, Semrush's pricing page shows $60 a month with annual billing selected, and its knowledge base gives the same figure with a 7 day trial. Extra users are $20 a month each and 10 more SEO-boosted articles cost $30 a month.
Is ContentShake AI still available?
Not under that name. Checked on 10 September 2026, semrush.com/contentshake/ returns a 301 redirect to semrush.com/content/, a page titled Content Toolkit. The article writing, briefs, content ideas and optimization that ContentShake AI sold now sit inside that toolkit, which Semrush sells as its own subscription.
What happened to ContentShake AI?
Semrush renamed and expanded it. ContentShake AI became the Content Toolkit, which bundles an AI Article Generator, Topic Finder, SEO Brief Generator, Content Optimizer, AI image generation and brand voices. The old URLs redirect to the new hub, although Semrush's own navigation markup still identifies the tool internally as contentshake.
Is ContentShake AI free?
No. There is a 7 day free trial, and after that the Content Toolkit is a paid subscription listed at $60 a month. The free Semrush account does not include it. If you want to judge SEO writing output before paying anyone, run a test on one of your own live pages rather than on a sample topic.
How many articles can I write with ContentShake AI?
Semrush gives two different answers. Its pricing page lists 10,000 articles a month, while its knowledge base says standard articles are unlimited. Either way the ceiling that matters is the 5 SEO-boosted articles a month, the ones built with advanced SERP analysis. Ten more of those cost $30 a month.
What is a good ContentShake AI alternative?
It depends whether you need new articles or better existing pages. For new articles at volume with WordPress publishing, the Content Toolkit is hard to beat at $60. For content scoring, Surfer starts at EUR 49. If your pages already exist and rank poorly, Seomake rewrites them against the target keyword from $49 a month.
Is Semrush Content Toolkit worth it?
It is good value if you publish several new articles a week on WordPress and can live with 5 SERP-informed articles a month plus the $30 add-on. It is poor value if most of your traffic problem is pages you already have, because generating more articles does not fix pages that sit on page five.
Content Toolkit prices, limits and add-on rates were read from semrush.com/pricing/content/ and semrush.com/kb/1536-content-toolkit-pricing-and-plans on 10 September 2026. The redirects were checked the same day. Surfer's entry price was read from surferseo.com the same day and is quoted in the euros it displayed.
