Audit my page
01 / AUDIT IS A PRO FEATURE NOW

Surfer SEO Audit alternative that writes the fix, and which Surfer plan includes the Audit tool

Surfer's one-page Audit is only on the Pro plan and up, $219 a month or $182 billed yearly. The cheaper plans get Content Audit, a separate tool that needs Search Console and ranks your pages rather than diagnosing one. Below: which is which, five alternatives priced from their own pages, and an audit you can run right now on the page that should rank.

No account. No card. Real output in about 20 seconds.

02 / The short answer

Surfer has two audit tools, and the one most people mean costs the most

Surfer Audit checks one live URL against one keyword and the competitors you pick, and it is included only on Pro, Peace of Mind and Enterprise. Surfer Content Audit connects to Google Search Console, lists your top 100 pages with a score each and tells you which to re-optimize, and it is on every plan from Discovery at $59 a month. Neither one writes the new copy for you.

If you want competitor benchmarking for one page and do not want Pro, Semrush On Page SEO Checker is the closest match. If you want the corrected title, meta description, headings and opening paragraph written for the page so the fix is ready to paste, SEOMake Starter is $49 a month with no meter on audits, and you can run one audit below without an account.

03 / Checked at source

Surfer Audit vs Content Audit, from Surfer's own help center

Search for the Surfer SEO audit tool and you will find two products under one word. Surfer's getting started article for Audit says it plainly, on our read of 21 September 2026: "Audit and Content Audit are two separate tools." The table below sets them side by side, using only what Surfer's documentation and pricing table say.

Surfer Audit and Surfer Content Audit compared on input, output, plans and what each leaves to you
Surfer Audit Surfer Content Audit
What goes in One URL, one keyword, one location A connected Search Console property
What comes out A report comparing that page with competitors you select A table of your top 100 pages with scores and a recommendation each
Plans Pro, Peace of Mind and Enterprise Every plan from Discovery
Best at Why one page loses to the pages above it Which of your pages to work on next
What it leaves to you Rewriting the page Rewriting the page, with Auto Optimize as a start

The plan split is the part that catches people out. Surfer's pricing comparison marks Audit as not included on Discovery and Standard, and the help article lists Pro, Peace of Mind and Enterprise as the plans that have it. So a Standard subscriber paying $119 a month has Content Audit, which can tell them a page lost 40 percent of its clicks, and no Audit to say why.

The pages that used to explain Audit have also moved. surferseo.com/audit/ now returns a 301 redirect to a blog post, surferseo.com/seo-audit serves the Content Audit product page, and an older getting started article that search engines still list comes back as "Not found". The tool itself is still there on Pro, and its current help article loads normally. If you went looking for the product page you remembered and ended up somewhere else, that is why.

Content Audit is a good tool for what it does. It reads 60 days of Search Console data for your top 100 pages, picks a main keyword for each by traffic, and flags the ones worth refreshing. It needs Search Console connected before it will start, and its location setting cannot be changed in the app afterwards, so agencies without Search Console access to a client's property are stuck with Audit or a URL-based tool. When you already know which posts slipped, a URL-based content refresh tool writes the rewrite for each one without any property access.

04 / Six options, priced

Surfer SEO audit alternatives compared on price, output and limits

Surfer figures were read from its pricing page and help center on 21 September 2026. Surfer prices were re-read from a United States connection in September 2026 and are the US dollar prices an American buyer sees. Semrush comes from its knowledge base on 19 September 2026, and Clearscope and Frase from their pricing pages on 18 September 2026.

Surfer Audit, Surfer Content Audit and four alternatives compared on price, what each returns, where it wins and where it falls short
Tool Price to get it What you get back Where it wins Where it falls short
Surfer Audit Pro $219 a month, $182 billed yearly A report on one URL against the pages you pick from the live results: word count, headings, terms, entities Benchmarks against real competitors in a chosen city or country, and shares as a link Locked to Pro and above, and the rewriting is still yours
Surfer Content Audit Discovery $59 a month, $49 billed yearly Your top 100 pages from Search Console, each with an SEO Score and a recommendation Finds the pages losing clicks, then sends them to the editor for Auto Optimize Needs Search Console connected, and it is a different tool from Audit
Semrush On Page SEO Checker Pro $139.95 a month, 500 SEO Idea Units A list of ideas per page and keyword, benchmarked on the top 10 Imports pages from Search Console and Position Tracking Units are spent again on every refresh; you still write the fix
Clearscope Essentials $129 a month A content grade and term list for drafts and existing pages Unlimited users on every plan A grade, not replacement copy, and 20 drafts a month
Frase Starter $49 a month, $39 billed yearly Content briefs, optimization scoring and 50 audit pages Research and brief in one place for a solo writer One seat and one site on Starter
SEOMake Starter $49 a month, $490 a year Score, issue list with evidence, rewritten title, meta, heading outline and intro, plus 20 drafts of 400 to 700 words a month Writes the corrected copy for the page, with no meter on audits Does not benchmark against competitors or score NLP terms

We list where each competitor beats us, because several do. Surfer's competitor benchmarking and entity analysis are things SEOMake does not offer, and Clearscope's unlimited seats are hard to beat for a large writing team. For the full suites side by side, see our Surfer SEO alternative page and the Semrush On Page SEO Checker comparison.

05 / The numbers to budget

What getting the one-page Audit costs on each Surfer plan

From Surfer's pricing page data on 21 September 2026. The first figure is billed monthly, the second is the monthly rate when billed yearly.

$59 / $49

Discovery without Audit

One seat, 120 documents, 10 tracked pages and Content Audit. The one-page Audit is marked not included.

$119 / $99

Standard without Audit

Three seats, 360 documents, keyword research and AI visibility tracking. Still no one-page Audit.

$219 / $182

Pro with Audit included

Five seats, Topical Map, cannibalization report and Audit. This is the cheapest way to get the tool, about $2,184 a year billed yearly.

$359 / $299

Peace of Mind

Ten seats, unlimited documents under a fair use policy, API access and SERP Analyzer on top of Audit.

So the step from Standard to Pro is 100 a month billed monthly, or 83 billed yearly, and Audit is one of several things it buys. If Audit is the reason you would upgrade, price the job rather than the plan. A team that needs 30 existing pages fixed a month is paying for the diagnosis, and then paying a writer to act on it. At $45 an hour and 20 minutes a page, that second cost is $450 a month, well above the upgrade.

06 / Which one to put on the card

When to upgrade to Surfer Pro, and when to buy something else

Upgrade to Surfer Pro if

  • You write in Surfer's Content Editor already and want Audit in the same place.
  • You need a page compared with named competitors in a specific city or country.
  • Topical Map and the cannibalization report are on your list anyway.
  • You have writers with time, and what they lack is a benchmark.

Buy an alternative if

  • Content Audit keeps flagging pages and nobody has time to rewrite them.
  • You cannot connect Search Console for the site you need to fix.
  • Audit is the only Pro feature you would use.
  • You want the finished title, meta and headings, not a report saying they fall short.

Content Audit already does half the job well: it finds the pages that are slipping. What most teams are short of is the hours to fix forty of them. If that is you, an on-page SEO checker that writes the fix is the part worth paying for, and you can keep Surfer on the cheaper plan for drafting.

07 / Where we fit

What SEOMake does instead, and what it does not do

SEOMake is not a copy of Surfer Audit, and it is better to know that before a trial. It does not pull the live results for your keyword, does not let you pick competitors, and does not count NLP terms or entities against the pages that rank. If benchmarking is what you use Audit for, Surfer Pro or Semrush is the closer match.

What SEOMake does is the step after the diagnosis. Paste a live URL and the keyword it should rank for. It reads the page's on-page signals, gives it a score, lists the issues with the evidence it found for each, and writes the fix: a title under 60 characters with the keyword first, a meta description at the length Google shows, a heading outline built around the query, an opening paragraph, and the subtopics the page does not yet cover. On paid plans it also writes a 400 to 700 word draft that follows the outline.

It works from the URL alone, so there is nothing to connect and no Search Console access to request from a client. Starter is $49 a month, or $490 a year, with unlimited page audits and 20 drafts a month. Growth is $149 a month with 100 drafts. Every plan is on our pricing page, and a full sample of the output is on the SEO audit tool page.

08 / Using it next to Surfer

How to fix the pages Content Audit flags without upgrading

1

Take the Content Audit list

Content Audit shows each page's URL, main keyword, position and recommendation, and exports them to CSV where your plan includes data export. That list is your work queue.

2

Run each URL and keyword

Paste the URL and its main keyword into SEOMake. You get the score, the issues and the rewritten title, meta, outline and intro for that pair.

3

Ship, then watch the score

Publish the corrected copy, then let Content Audit tell you whether clicks and position recover over the next 30 days.

09 / Asked and answered

Surfer SEO audit, question by question

What is the best Surfer SEO Audit alternative?

It depends on what you want back. For competitor benchmarking on one page, Semrush On Page SEO Checker on Pro at $139.95. For grading drafts across a team, Clearscope at $129. For the corrected title, meta description, headings and intro written for the page, SEOMake Starter at $49 a month with no meter on audits.

Is Surfer Audit included in every plan?

No. Surfer's help center says the Audit tool is part of the Pro, Peace of Mind and Enterprise plans, and the pricing table marks it as not included on Discovery and Standard. Content Audit, the Search Console tool, is on every plan. On our September 2026 read from a US connection, Pro was $219 a month, or $182 billed yearly.

What is the difference between Surfer Audit and Content Audit?

Surfer says they are two separate tools. Audit takes one URL, a keyword and a location and compares that page with competitors you choose. Content Audit connects to Google Search Console, lists your top 100 pages with an SEO Score and flags which ones to re-optimize. One diagnoses a page, the other picks which pages to diagnose.

How much does the Surfer SEO audit tool cost?

The one-page Audit starts with the Pro plan, which Surfer's pricing page shows a US buyer at $219 a month billed monthly or $182 a month billed yearly. Peace of Mind is $359 or $299. Content Audit comes with Discovery from $59 a month.

Does Surfer SEO audit require Google Search Console?

Content Audit does: Surfer's documentation says Search Console must be connected before you can start, and it only shows pages that are indexed there. The one-page Audit does not. It needs a URL, a target keyword and a location. If you cannot connect Search Console for a client site, Audit or a URL-based tool is the option.

Is there a free Surfer SEO audit?

Surfer gives new accounts a 7-day free trial of the Pro plan, which includes Audit. After that, Audit needs a paid Pro or Peace of Mind subscription. SEOMake runs one page audit with no account and no card, so you can see the full output before paying for anything.

Does Surfer Audit rewrite my content?

No. Audit reports what differs between your page and the pages you benchmark against, such as length, headings, terms and entities, and leaves the rewriting to you. Surfer's Auto Optimize works inside its Content Editor, where pages from Content Audit are sent. Writing the new title, meta and headings is the gap an alternative has to close.

Why did the Surfer Audit page disappear?

On 21 September 2026, surferseo.com/audit/ redirected to a blog post, surferseo.com/seo-audit showed the Content Audit product, and an older help article on getting started with Audit returned a Not found page. The Audit tool itself still exists on Pro and above, and its current help article loads normally.

Surfer plans and prices were read from surferseo.com/pricing/ and its comparison table, the Audit plan list from docs.surferseo.com article 5700351, Content Audit details from article 9182497, and billing rules from the pricing FAQ, article 7545943, all on 21 September 2026. The redirects were checked the same day. Semrush figures are from its knowledge base on 19 September 2026, and Clearscope and Frase from their pricing pages on 18 September 2026. The $45 hourly rate is an assumption for illustration. Vendor prices change. If yours differs, trust the checkout.
