01 / THE PLAN THAT WENT AWAY

Semrush Guru plan price in 2026: Guru pricing after the retirement, and Guru vs Pro on the new ladder

Semrush retired the Pro, Guru and Business ladder. Every price you will find on page one for the Guru plan is quoting a plan Semrush no longer sells. This page has the mapping from the old names to the new ones, both prices side by side, and the exact size of the increase. While you read, point the audit at a page you need ranking.

02 / The short answer

What the Semrush Guru plan costs now, in one paragraph

The Semrush Guru plan cost $249.95 a month, and it no longer exists. Semrush replaced the Pro, Guru and Business ladder with SEO at $139 a month, Starter at $199, Pro+ at $299 and Advanced at $549. Pro+ is the plan that inherited Guru's limits: 15 monitored sites and 1,500 tracked keywords, the same numbers Guru carried. So the honest answer to what Guru costs today is $299 a month, or $248.17 billed annually, which is $49.05 a month more than Guru was.

Two things worth knowing before you commit. Extra seats are a separate line item starting at $45 a month each, on every tier. And the new Starter plan at $199 carries exactly the same 5 sites and 500 keywords as the $139 SEO plan, so the $60 a month between them buys AI search features rather than capacity. If your team is on Guru mainly for the content toolkit, that is the part of the bill worth pricing separately.

03 / Checked today

Semrush's own pricing page still tells you to buy the Guru plan

This is why the question is so hard to research, and we checked it directly rather than repeating a review site. We fetched semrush.com/prices on 9 September 2026. It returns HTTP 200 and about 318 KB of markup, and the plan ladder on it is SEO, Starter, Pro+ and Advanced. Guru is not one of the four. But the FAQ copy shipped in that same page still asks, word for word, "Which would be better for me, Guru or Pro?"

The answer underneath it is also still there: "You might choose Pro plan, which is the basic subscription, or Guru plan, which is the most popular for SMBs and growing agencies. The plans differ in the number of tools available as well as in the number of limits." A second entry goes further and makes a recommendation: "If you're a freelancer, blogger, or in-house marketer with a limited budget, then the Semrush Pro plan will likely be the best option. If you're a professional SEO consultant or an agency with numerous clients, then you will be best suited to the Semrush Guru plan."

There is more of it. One feature list is still headed "All Guru features plus:". A separate FAQ about the free account explains the old report ceilings in the retired names: "Pro users have access to 3,000 searches, Guru, 5,000 searches, Business, 10,000 searches." None of those three plans can be bought on that page.

That is the whole reason a buyer ends up confused. The vendor's own page recommends a plan it withdrew, and every affiliate roundup on page one still quotes $249.95 for it. When a product disappears quietly, the search results keep selling it for months. We wrote up the same pattern in what happened to Searchmetrics and again when Adobe removed the Marketo Engage SEO tile.

04 / Old name to new name

Semrush Guru, Pro and Business mapped to the plans that replaced them

The current prices and every capacity figure in the third column came off semrush.com/prices on 9 September 2026. The retired prices in the second column are the widely documented rates from before the change, which we flag honestly below rather than presenting as freshly verified.

Retired Semrush plans mapped to current plans with prices, limits and the price difference
Retired plan What it cost Capacity Now called Current price Difference
Pro $139.95 a month, $117.33 billed annually 5 sites, 500 keywords SEO $139 a month, $117.33 billed annually Effectively unchanged
Guru $249.95 a month, $208.33 billed annually 15 sites, 1,500 keywords Pro+ $299 a month, $248.17 billed annually Up $49.05 a month, or $478.08 a year on annual billing
Business $499.95 a month, $416.66 billed annually 40 sites, 5,000 keywords Advanced $549 a month, $455.67 billed annually Up $49.05 a month, or $468.12 a year on annual billing
No equivalent Did not exist 5 sites, 500 keywords Starter $199 a month, $165.17 billed annually New tier, priced $60 above SEO for identical capacity

On sourcing, plainly. The four current prices and all eight capacity figures were read from Semrush's live pricing page on 9 September 2026. The retired prices could not be re-verified at source: semrush.com/prices returns a 302 redirect to every Internet Archive crawl going back to 2025, so no snapshot of the old ladder exists to quote. What can be checked is that the capacity ladder is unchanged, 5 and 500, then 15 and 1,500, then 40 and 5,000, which is what makes the mapping unambiguous. The full current ladder with every tier limit is on our Semrush pricing page.

05 / What you were paying for

The four things the Guru premium bought, and what each one costs now

Guru sat $110 a month above Pro, and almost nobody upgraded for all four reasons at once. Working out which one applied to you is the difference between paying $299 a month and paying a fraction of it, so it is worth being specific rather than renewing on the nearest tier.

Triple the capacity

Guru moved you from 5 tracked sites and 500 keywords to 15 and 1,500. That capacity now sits on Pro+ at $299 a month. The numbers are identical, so if capacity was the reason you were on Guru, Pro+ is the plan and the only question is the extra $49.05 a month.

The Content Marketing Platform

Topic research, the content template, the SEO writing assistant and the on page checker. This was the single biggest reason SMBs paid the Guru premium rather than staying on Pro, and it is also the part with the most competition underneath it now.

Historical data

Guru unlocked historical keyword and domain data going back years, which Pro did not have. Nothing cheap replaces this. If you run competitive analysis on multi-year trends, you are buying Pro+ or Advanced and there is no way around it.

Looker Studio integration and multi-location tracking

Reporting plumbing and local rank tracking by location. Agencies used both. We ship neither, and neither does any tool at the bottom of this market, so price this into whatever you move to.

If two or more of those applied, Pro+ is a fair renewal and the extra $49.05 a month is the cost of staying put. If only the content toolkit applied, you are about to pay $3,588 a year for a research platform to get at a writing assistant, and that is the case worth reopening. Semrush now also sells its content tools separately, as the renamed ContentShake AI, and what that costs on its own is on our ContentShake AI pricing page. The cheaper end of the market is priced out on alternatives to Semrush, and the head-to-head that most Guru subscribers were weighing is on Moz Pro against Semrush.

06 / The number to check

Starter costs $60 a month more than SEO and gives you no extra capacity

This is the one figure worth taking off the pricing page yourself, because it is easy to miss and it decides $720 a year. The comparison table on semrush.com/prices lists websites to monitor across the four tiers as 5, 5, 15 and 40, and keywords to track as 500, 500, 1,500 and 5,000. The first two columns are SEO and Starter. They are identical.

So the $60 a month between the $139 plan and the $199 plan is not headroom. It buys the AI search layer: brand visibility tracking across the assistants, AI visibility reports, and the newer content analysis built around them. That may well be worth $720 a year to you. It is worth knowing that is what you are buying, rather than assuming a higher tier means more sites and more keywords, which on this ladder it does not until Pro+.

The other line that catches people is seats. Additional users start at $45 a month each and sit outside the plan price on every tier, so a Guru subscriber with three people in the account was never paying $249.95, and a Pro+ renewal for the same three people is not $299 either. Semrush publishes the add-on rate but not the number of seats each base plan includes, which makes a team quote impossible to build from the pricing page alone. The Lead Generation add-on is a separate $90 a month.

07 / Where we fit

What we replace out of that bill, and what we do not

Straight answer first, because this page is not a bait and switch. Seomake does not track keyword rankings, does not maintain a backlink index, and has no historical database. Three of the four reasons anyone paid the Guru premium, we do not cover, and if you need them you should renew on Pro+ or buy from the comparison on the SEO tools ladder.

The fourth reason is the one we are built for. Guru's content toolkit existed so that somebody could take a page or a target keyword and find out what to change. Seomake reads a live URL and the keyword it should rank for, scores the page, lists what is costing the ranking, and then writes the corrected version: a title under 60 characters with the term at the front, a meta description at the length Google actually renders, a heading outline covering the intent, an opening paragraph, and the terms the page is missing. It stops at the writing rather than stopping at the diagnosis, which is where most page checkers give up.

Our plans are $49 a month, $149, and $499 for agency volume. Against a $299 Pro+ renewal, the comparison only makes sense if the content work was the actual job. If it was, the audit at the top of this page runs without an account or a card, so you can settle it on one of your own URLs in about a minute. The mechanics are on how the audit and rewrite work, the same check across a set of URLs is on the on page SEO audit page, and the plans are on our pricing page.

08 / Asked and answered

The Semrush Guru plan, question by question

Can I still buy the Semrush Guru plan?

No. Semrush no longer sells a plan called Guru. The plan ladder on semrush.com/prices, read on 9 September 2026, is SEO at $139 a month, Starter at $199, Pro+ at $299 and Advanced at $549, plus Semrush for Enterprise on request. Pro+ carries the 15 sites and 1,500 keywords that Guru carried, so it is the closest match on capacity.

How much was the Semrush Guru plan?

Guru was $249.95 a month, or $208.33 a month billed annually, which worked out to $2,499.96 a year. The plan that now holds the same limits is Pro+ at $299 a month, or $248.17 billed annually. That is $49.05 more each month, and $478.08 more across a year on annual billing.

Which would be better for me, Guru or Pro?

That question no longer has a buyable answer, though Semrush still asks it in the FAQ on its own pricing page. The equivalent decision today is SEO at $139 against Pro+ at $299, and it turns entirely on capacity. If you track fewer than 500 keywords across fewer than 5 sites, SEO covers you and Pro+ is $1,920 a year of headroom you will not use.

What replaced the Semrush Guru plan?

Pro+ replaced it on capacity, matching Guru at 15 monitored sites and 1,500 tracked keywords, at $299 a month against Guru's $249.95. Semrush also added a Starter tier at $199 that did not previously exist. Starter does not replace Guru: it carries the same 5 sites and 500 keywords as the $139 SEO plan.

How much is the Semrush Business plan?

Business is also retired. It was $499.95 a month, or $416.66 billed annually, with 40 sites and 5,000 keywords. Those limits now sit on Advanced at $549 a month, or $455.67 billed annually. The increase is $49.05 a month, the same absolute rise Guru subscribers face, which works out to $468.12 more a year on annual billing.

Is the Semrush Guru free trial still available?

There is no trial of a plan that is not sold. Semrush has historically offered a seven day trial on paid tiers, and any trial you start now will be on the current ladder, most likely Pro+ if you were shopping for Guru. Check the terms at checkout, because trial length and the tiers it covers have changed more than once.

What did the Semrush Guru plan include that Pro did not?

Four things: triple the capacity at 15 sites and 1,500 keywords, the Content Marketing Platform with its topic research and writing assistant, historical keyword and domain data, and Looker Studio integration with multi-location rank tracking. For most SMBs the content toolkit was the actual reason to upgrade, not the capacity.

Why does Semrush still mention Guru on its pricing page?

Because the FAQ copy was not updated with the plan ladder. Fetched on 9 September 2026, semrush.com/prices still ships the question "Which would be better for me, Guru or Pro?" and an answer recommending Guru to agencies, alongside a feature list headed "All Guru features plus:". Both refer to plans that are not on the page.

Current Semrush prices, capacity limits, add-on rates and the quoted FAQ strings were read from semrush.com/prices on 9 September 2026. Retired plan prices are attributed as documented, not re-verified at source, for the reason set out in section 04.
