Semrush Adobe acquisition: what the Adobe Semrush merger changes for Semrush pricing, plans and alternatives
Adobe closed the deal on 28 April 2026. Every news story covered the $1.9 billion price. None of them answered the only question a paying customer has, so this page puts Semrush's own written commitments next to what each one leaves open, with today's verified prices. While you read, point the audit at a page you are paying Semrush to watch.
What the Adobe Semrush merger actually changes for you
Adobe completed its acquisition of Semrush on 28 April 2026, an all-cash deal at $12 a share worth about $1.9 billion. As of 3 September 2026 no Semrush price has changed: the SEO plan is still $139 a month, Pro+ is $299 and Advanced is $549. Semrush's own customer FAQ states there will be "no changes to our existing contracts and agreements" and "no immediate changes" to features, access, support or billing. Nothing is required of you, and Semrush is not shutting down.
The part worth planning around is the wording rather than the deal. "At this time" and "no immediate changes" are accurate descriptions of today and deliberately say nothing about your next renewal quote. That is normal language for the month after a close, and it is also the reason the sensible move is to read your renewal rather than to cancel now on a rumour.
One useful comparison sits on this site already. When Searchmetrics was absorbed by Conductor, the product genuinely stopped being sold and its customers had a hard deadline. That is what a real sunset looks like, and it is not what is happening here. Adobe confirmed Semrush keeps operating for its roughly 28 million users, smaller accounts included. Read what happened to Searchmetrics if you want the shape of an acquisition that did force a migration.
Semrush plan prices and the customer FAQ quotations were read off semrush.com on 3 September 2026. Deal terms are from Adobe's own completion announcement of 28 April 2026 and the acquisition agreement announced 19 November 2025. Vendors change pricing without notice, so confirm at checkout.
What Semrush committed to, and what each commitment leaves open
The middle column is quoted verbatim from Semrush's customer FAQ. The right column is our reading of what the sentence does not cover, and it is labelled as opinion because that is what it is. No vendor writes a customer FAQ to describe the downside, so the useful work is separating the promise from its scope.
| What customers ask | What Semrush published | What it does not cover |
|---|---|---|
| Will my price change? | "At this time, there will be no changes to our existing contracts and agreements." | "At this time" is a status update, not a contract term. It describes the agreement you already signed, and says nothing about the number on your next renewal quote. |
| Will the product change? | "There will be no immediate changes to your current services, agreements, or points of contact, including product: features, interface and experience, access, support, billing." | "Immediate" is the operative word. Adobe has publicly framed the deal around integrating Semrush data into its own customer experience products, which is a roadmap statement, not a freeze. |
| Do I need to do anything? | Nothing. Semrush states that operations continue without interruption and existing customers keep their current setup. | There is no forced migration and no deadline, which also means there is no external event that will make the decision for you. |
| What happens to small accounts? | "We commit to providing the best products and support for businesses of any size." | A statement of intent rather than a published guarantee that a specific tier or its price will survive. Adobe confirmed Semrush continues to operate for its roughly 28 million users. |
| I have contracts with both companies. | "For now, you can keep working with both contracts and both systems." | Covers the mechanics of running two agreements. It does not describe how the two are billed once the systems are consolidated. |
Semrush pricing after the acquisition, read today
These are the figures on semrush.com/prices on 3 September 2026, four months after the deal closed. They are identical to the pre-acquisition ladder. If you have seen a claim that Semrush raised prices because of Adobe, this table is the check: it has not happened yet on the public pricing page.
| Plan | Monthly | Billed yearly | Websites | Extra users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush Free | $0 | Not applicable | 1 demo project | Not published |
| Semrush SEO | $139 | $117.33 a month | 5 websites | Add-on from $45 a month |
| Semrush Starter | $199 | $165.17 a month | 5 websites | Add-on from $45 a month |
| Semrush Pro+ | $299 | $248.17 a month | 15 websites | Add-on from $45 a month |
| Semrush Advanced | $549 | $455.67 a month | 40 websites | Add-on from $45 a month |
One detail the pricing page still does not publish: how many seats a base plan includes. It sells an Additional Users add-on starting at $45 a month without stating the starting count, so a team price cannot be derived from the page alone. That was true before the acquisition and remains true after it. The full ladder, including what each tier meters, is on our Semrush pricing breakdown.
What to do at your next Semrush renewal
There are only three reasonable responses to an ownership change at a vendor you already pay, and which one fits depends on how much of the product you actually touch rather than on the news.
Stay on monthly and watch
The right default if Semrush is doing a job for you and you use more than the keyword tool. Nothing has changed, no migration is being forced, and monthly billing keeps your exit cheap. Diarise the renewal date and compare the quote against the published rate rather than against last year's invoice.
Lock the annual rate
The right move if you were keeping it regardless. Annual billing takes the SEO plan from $139 to $117.33 a month and Advanced from $549 to $455.67, and it fixes the rate for the term. It is a real hedge against a future increase and a bad idea if you are already uncertain, because annual plans here rarely refund.
Move, if you were going to anyway
An acquisition is a reason to re-examine a subscription, not a reason to cancel one that works. If you were already paying $299 a month to use two features, the honest answer was to leave before Adobe was involved. Priced options are in our cheaper Semrush alternatives comparison.
What genuinely does not make sense is switching platforms on the strength of a headline. Migrating a competitor and backlink workflow costs weeks of setup and loses your historical project data, which is a large, certain cost paid against a speculative one. If you use Semrush mainly for research, the Ahrefs comparison is the more useful read; if you mainly want a cheaper all-round platform, the Moz Pro option is the usual landing spot.
We are not a Semrush replacement, and pretending otherwise would waste your afternoon
Semrush is a research platform. It maintains a web index, a keyword database and a backlink graph, and those cost real money to build. We do not have any of that, and no $49 tool does. If what you need is competitor keyword data or a link index, buy Semrush, Ahrefs or Moz, and buy the cheapest tier that covers your projects.
What we do is the half that every one of those platforms leaves to you. They audit a page and hand you a prioritized list of problems: the title is too long, the meta is missing, the heading structure is wrong, these keywords are absent. Then you write the fixes yourself. Seomake reads the live page and writes them, the corrected title under 60 characters with the keyword first, the meta description at the right length, the heading outline and the opening paragraph.
So the realistic stack for most teams after this acquisition is unchanged: keep one research subscription, and stop paying platform prices for the writing. If you want to see the output before deciding anything, the audit at the top of this page runs without an account or a card. More on the mechanics in how the audit and rewrite work.
The Adobe Semrush acquisition, question by question
Did Adobe buy Semrush?
Yes. Adobe completed its acquisition of Semrush Holdings on 28 April 2026. The deal was announced on 19 November 2025 as an all-cash transaction at $12 a share, valuing Semrush at roughly $1.9 billion. Semrush now operates as part of Adobe rather than as a separately listed public company.
How much did Adobe pay for Semrush?
Approximately $1.9 billion, structured as an all-cash deal at $12 per share. The announcement on 19 November 2025 sent Semrush shares up sharply, and the transaction closed on 28 April 2026. Adobe positioned the purchase around brand visibility in AI search rather than around classic SEO reporting.
Will Semrush prices go up after the Adobe acquisition?
No published price has changed as of 3 September 2026. The SEO plan is still $139 a month, Pro+ is $299 and Advanced is $549, the same figures as before the deal closed. Semrush says there will be no changes to existing contracts "at this time", which is a description of today rather than a commitment about future renewals.
Is Semrush shutting down?
No. Adobe confirmed Semrush continues to operate for its roughly 28 million users, including smaller accounts, and Semrush states there are no immediate changes to features, interface, access, support or billing. This is an ownership change, not a sunset. Compare that with Searchmetrics, which was folded into Conductor and genuinely stopped being sold.
Do I need to do anything as a Semrush customer?
Nothing is required. Semrush states that operations continue without interruption and your login, projects and billing are unaffected. The one thing worth doing voluntarily is exporting anything you would not want to rebuild, because the cheapest moment to own your historical data is while you still have an active seat.
What does the Adobe acquisition mean for small businesses using Semrush?
Practically nothing today, and an open question at renewal. Adobe sells primarily to enterprises, and analysts have flagged the risk that focus shifts toward larger contracts. Semrush has committed to serving businesses of any size. Nothing in the published record says a small plan is going away, so the sensible response is to watch your renewal quote rather than to move preemptively.
Should I renew Semrush annually now to lock in the price?
Only if you were going to keep it anyway. Annual billing drops the SEO plan from $139 to $117.33 a month and Advanced from $549 to $455.67, and it fixes your rate for the term. That is a genuine hedge against a future increase. It is a poor hedge if you are already unsure about the tool, because annual plans in this category rarely refund.
Will Semrush be merged into Adobe Experience Cloud?
Adobe has described the goal as connecting Semrush search and visibility data with its own experience products so brands can move from insight to action in one system. That is a stated direction, not a shipped migration. No timeline for merging the Semrush interface into Adobe Experience Cloud has been published.
When did the Adobe Semrush acquisition close?
28 April 2026. Adobe announced the agreement on 19 November 2025 and confirmed completion on 28 April 2026. Any pricing or product comparison written before that date describes Semrush as an independent public company and should be read with that in mind.
What are the best Semrush alternatives in 2026?
It depends which half of Semrush you actually use. For competitor and backlink research, Ahrefs Lite at $129 and Standard at $249 are the closest like-for-like. For cheaper all-round coverage, Moz Pro Standard at $99 and SE Ranking are the usual answers. For turning an audit into written fixes, that is a different category and a much smaller field.
