Semrush One vs SEO Classic and which ladder to buy

Semrush now sells two plan ladders on one page, and the article that used to compare them has been deleted. Both ladders are priced below from Semrush's own pricing page and knowledge base, with the gap between them worked out to the cent. While you decide, point the audit at a page you need ranking.

02 / The short answer

Semrush One vs SEO Classic, in one paragraph

SEO Classic is the Pro, Guru and Business ladder Semrush has always sold, under a new umbrella name. Semrush One is that same SEO toolkit with AI visibility tracking bundled in. The SEO capacity at each matching tier is identical: 5 sites and 500 keywords, then 15 and 1,500, then 40 and 5,000. The price is not. Guru is $249.95 a month and the matching Semrush One Pro+ is $299. Business is $499.95 and the matching Advanced is $549. Both gaps are exactly $49.05 a month, which makes that figure the flat price of adding AI visibility to a plan you already hold.

So the decision is narrower than the two pricing tables make it look. It is not which platform to buy. It is whether AI visibility reporting is worth $588.60 a year on top of what you already pay for SEO data. If nobody on the team will open that report twice a month, SEO Classic is still sold, still priced in Semrush's knowledge base, and costs you less.

03 / Checked at source

Semrush deleted the article that answered this question

Search for this comparison and the first result is usually Semrush's own knowledge base article 1624, listed as Semrush Plans Comparison: Semrush One vs SEO Toolkit. Requested on 16 September 2026, that address returns a 301 permanent redirect to semrush.com/pricing/seo/, which in turn returns a 302 to semrush.com/pricing/seo-ai-search/. The page that loads is a pricing page. There is no side-by-side comparison on it. Google is still listing the title of a document the vendor removed.

Underneath that, Semrush is running two names for the same ladder. The pricing page ships a section headed SEO Classic Plans, and a tooltip reading "Cost per extra team member for SEO Classic Toolkit access." The knowledge base article those plans link to, number 1547, redirects to a page titled SEO Toolkit Pricing and Limits, in which the phrase "SEO Classic" does not appear once. One product, two vendor-published names, and the reconciling article taken down.

This matters commercially, not just editorially. It is why so much of page one tells you the Guru plan was discontinued. It was not. It was renamed. Article 1547 still prices SEO Toolkit Guru at $249.95 a month with 15 monitored sites and 1,500 tracked keywords, which is the same plan at the same price it has been. We had this wrong ourselves until today, and have corrected our Semrush Guru plan price page to match what the vendor actually publishes.

One caveat we will not paper over. Semrush renders its plan prices in the browser rather than in the page source, and the annual billing toggle is selected by default. The SEO Classic figures below come from knowledge base article 1547, where they are in the text and can be checked. The Semrush One figures come from our read of the live pricing page on 9 September 2026, and are labelled as such rather than dressed up as fresh.

04 / Both ladders, matched by capacity

Semrush One vs SEO Classic priced tier by tier

Rows are matched on SEO capacity, not on marketing tier order, because that is the only honest way to compare them. Every SEO Classic price and limit is from Semrush knowledge base article 1547, read 16 September 2026. Semrush One prices are from our read of the live pricing page on 9 September 2026.

Semrush SEO Classic plans and Semrush One plans matched by SEO capacity, with monthly prices and the difference
Who it is for SEO capacity SEO Classic plan Monthly Semrush One plan Monthly Difference
Small site or freelancer 5 sites, 500 keywords, 100,000 pages crawled SEO Classic Pro $139.95 Semrush One SEO $139 Level, within a dollar
Small site that also wants AI visibility 5 sites, 500 keywords, plus AI brand tracking No equivalent Not sold at this tier Semrush One Starter $199 Up $59.05 on Pro
Team or growing agency 15 sites, 1,500 keywords, 300,000 pages crawled SEO Classic Guru $249.95 Semrush One Pro+ $299 Up $49.05 a month
Established agency or large business 40 sites, 5,000 keywords, 1,000,000 pages crawled SEO Classic Business $499.95 Semrush One Advanced $549 Up $49.05 a month

Where SEO Classic wins, the table says so: at three of the four capacity points it is the cheaper way to buy the same SEO limits. Where Semrush One wins is the row SEO Classic cannot fill, a small site that wants AI visibility without jumping to a 15 site plan. The rest of the Semrush ladder, including what the API tier actually costs, is on our Semrush API pricing page.

05 / The numbers to budget

The four numbers that decide this, and $49.05 is the one

Two ladders, eight tiers and a pile of feature bullets collapse into a much smaller decision once you line the prices up against matching capacity.

$49.05

the gap at matching capacity

Guru to Pro+ and Business to Advanced are both exactly $49.05 a month apart, and both pairs carry identical site and keyword limits. That is not a pricing accident. It is the flat monthly rate Semrush charges to add AI visibility to a plan you already have.

$588.60

a year to add AI visibility

Twelve months at $49.05. Before you approve it, be clear whether anyone on the team will open an AI visibility report twice a month, because that is what this line funds.

$0.95

saved by moving Pro to SEO

At the entry tier the two ladders are the same product at the same price. SEO Classic Pro is $139.95 and Semrush One SEO is $139. Nothing is at stake in that decision, so do not spend a meeting on it.

2

seat charges on Semrush One

The pricing page lists a cost per extra team member for SEO Classic Toolkit access and a separate cost per extra team member for AI Visibility Toolkit access, in addition to the user cost. A second person on Semrush One is billed on both lines, not one.

The seat arithmetic is the part most teams miss. On the pricing page, extra users on the SEO side and extra users on the AI visibility side are two separate charges, and the second is described as being "in addition to the user cost". A three-person team on Semrush One is paying the plan, two SEO seats and two AI visibility seats. Price that out before you compare the headline figures, and read it next to the full Semrush pricing breakdown.

06 / Which one to put on the card

When Semrush One earns the $49.05, and when SEO Classic is the better buy

Buy Semrush One if

  • A client or an executive has asked, in writing, how the brand shows up in AI answers.
  • You already buy AI visibility monitoring somewhere else, so this consolidates two invoices.
  • You need AI tracking on a small site and do not want to buy a 15 site plan to get it.
  • Reporting is part of what you sell, and an AI visibility section wins or keeps retainers.
  • You are starting fresh, where the $0.95 difference at the entry tier makes One the simpler pick.

Stay on SEO Classic if

  • Your work is keyword research, position tracking, audits and backlinks, and it ends there.
  • Nobody has opened an AI visibility report in the last two months.
  • You are on Guru or Business and the renewal is the only reason this question came up.
  • You have several seats, where the second per-user charge on Semrush One compounds fastest.
  • The $588.60 a year is better spent on something that changes the pages, not the reporting.

That last line is worth sitting with. Neither ladder edits a page for you. Both tell you what is wrong and leave the fixing to whoever has the afternoon. If cost is the reason you are reading a comparison at all, the cheaper end of this market is priced out on our Semrush alternatives page, and the head-to-head most teams weigh next is Semrush against Ahrefs.

07 / The option neither ladder covers

Both ladders measure. Neither one fixes the page.

Look at what the $49.05 actually changes. It moves you from knowing where you rank in Google to knowing where you rank in Google and in AI answers. It is more measurement. For a lot of teams that is the correct purchase, and if AI visibility reporting is the deliverable, buy Semrush One and stop reading comparisons.

But most sites weighing this already have the diagnosis. They have a site audit with 400 issues, a position tracking dashboard showing page four, and a dozen pages that were written once and never corrected. Adding an AI visibility tab to that does not move any of them. The bottleneck stopped being information a long time ago.

08 / Where we fit

What we do instead, and what we do not do at all

Being straight about this saves you a trial. SEOMake is not a Semrush replacement. There is no backlink index, no crawler that walks a million pages, and no AI visibility monitoring. The thing the extra $49.05 a month buys on Semrush One is a thing we do not sell at any price. If that is the job, Semrush One is the purchase and this page has done its work.

What we do is the step after the diagnosis. SEOMake reads one live URL and the keyword it should rank for, scores the page, lists what is costing it the ranking, and writes the correction: a title under 60 characters with the keyword first, a meta description at the length Google actually renders, a heading outline built for the intent, an opening paragraph, and the terms the page is missing against what already ranks. On paid plans it also writes a 400 to 700 word draft that follows that outline.

Starter is $49 a month, or $490 a year, with unlimited page audits and 20 drafts. Growth is $149 a month with 5 sites, 3 seats and 100 drafts. Agency is $499. Every plan is on our pricing page, and each field an audit returns is shown one by one on the AI SEO content page. The quickest way to judge it is the audit at the top of this page, run on a page of yours that should rank and does not.

09 / Asked and answered

Semrush One and SEO Classic, question by question

What is Semrush SEO Classic?

SEO Classic is the new umbrella name for the Pro, Guru and Business ladder Semrush has sold for years. Read on 16 September 2026, its pricing page carries a section headed SEO Classic Plans alongside the Semrush One plans. The tiers, limits and prices are unchanged. Only the name above them is new.

Semrush One vs SEO Classic, which should I buy?

Buy SEO Classic if your work is keyword research, rank tracking, site audits and backlinks, and nothing else. Buy Semrush One if you also need AI visibility tracking across AI Overviews and chat assistants. At matching capacity Semrush One costs $49.05 a month more, so the decision is simply whether AI visibility reporting is worth $588.60 a year to you.

Is Semrush Guru still available?

Yes. Guru was not discontinued, it was renamed into the SEO Classic ladder. Semrush knowledge base article 1547, read on 16 September 2026 and titled SEO Toolkit Pricing and Limits, still prices SEO Toolkit Guru at $249.95 a month with 15 monitored sites and 1,500 tracked keywords. Pages telling you Guru is dead are reading a rename as a retirement.

How much does Semrush One cost?

Semrush One is sold in four tiers. Read on 9 September 2026, they were SEO at $139 a month, Starter at $199, Pro+ at $299 and Advanced at $549, with lower equivalents on annual billing. Semrush renders these prices in the browser rather than in the page source, and the annual toggle is selected by default, so confirm the month-to-month figure on the page before you subscribe.

What is the difference between Semrush One and Semrush Classic?

Semrush One bundles the classic SEO toolkit with AI visibility tracking in one subscription. SEO Classic is the SEO toolkit on its own. The SEO capacity at each matching tier is identical: 5 sites and 500 keywords, then 15 and 1,500, then 40 and 5,000. What Semrush One adds is the AI side, and what it adds to the invoice is $49.05 a month.

Semrush One vs Guru, is Pro+ the same plan?

On SEO capacity, yes. Guru carries 15 monitored sites and 1,500 tracked keywords, and so does Semrush One Pro+. If capacity is why you are on Guru, Pro+ is the matching plan and the only difference is the AI visibility toolkit and $49.05 a month. If capacity is not the issue, look down the ladder before you look across it.

Can I stay on SEO Classic instead of moving to Semrush One?

The SEO Classic ladder is still on the pricing page and still priced in the knowledge base, so it is still a plan you can hold. Semrush presents Semrush One as the default, which is a merchandising choice rather than a deadline. Nothing in its published material sets an end date for SEO Classic.

Does SEO Classic include AI visibility tracking?

No. That is the entire difference between the two ladders. SEO Classic covers keyword research, position tracking, site audits, backlinks and competitor research. AI brand performance and AI visibility reporting sit on the Semrush One plans, and on the pricing page they carry their own per-seat charge on top of the normal user cost.

SEO Classic prices, limits and plan names were read from semrush.com/kb/1547-seo-toolkit-pricing-and-plans on 16 September 2026. The SEO Classic Plans heading, the per-seat tooltips and the capacity strings were read from the markup semrush.com/pricing/seo-ai-search/ shipped the same day. The redirect from knowledge base article 1624 was checked the same day. Semrush One prices come from our read of the live pricing page on 9 September 2026, since that page renders prices in the browser rather than in its source. Semrush plan prices change. If yours differs, trust your invoice.
